Hi, I’m Liza Hippler, the creator of Giveaway Center and also a member. (Throwback to Hair Club for Men, yes?) I also founded its parent site, Bloganizer.com. Both of which have the goal of providing awesomeness for bloggers and the general public alike.
As a former (mom)blogger, I had a lot of fun, but came upon a lot of frustrating road blocks, and I wasn’t the only one.
When running a giveaway, you want people to enter it! It’s fun, it’s exciting and you don’t want to look lame and not have very many entries. You want TONS of entries so that you look good ‘n popular and so that you can turn around to whoever is sponsoring your giveaway and say SEE? I DID GOOD.
I thought, “There needs to be a central place for all these blog-giveaways. They’re awesome and everyone loves free stuff, especially awesome free stuff.” Turns out, there ARE places online where you can find giveaways! Unfortunately, many of those places can cause your brain to explode as you try to sort through blinking things, squint at lines and lines of text-only pages and decipher which pieces of text and images are giveaways and which are ads.
Then, if you could sort through at all, you could only sort by one filter at a time. So, “Giveaways in the US,” or “Giveaways run with a Rafflecopter form,” or “Baby item giveaways,” but never, “Baby item giveaways in the US run by Rafflecopter.” Surely, there was a way to do this more efficiently.
Plus, on the blogger side, many of the places require that you submit your giveaway, making you wait until someone hand-uploads it for you. That seemed frustrating to me.
So, we first had Giveaway Center as a piece of Bloganizer. But one of my ultimate goals is to make the general public aware of the awesomeness of the blogosphere – lifestyle bloggers in particular. The people who may have heard (or not) the word “blog” and didn’t really know what it meant. If they clicked on a link to a blog post on Facebook and liked it, it was by accident and they didn’t know how, or even that they COULD, get back there. That there was MORE fantastic there. And not just there, but ALL. OVER.
So, in thinking about that, I thought that we ought to make Giveaway Center its own site. A site that wouldn’t have the word “blog” splashed on it and wouldn’t be encumbered with a myriad of tools only bloggers would find interesting. A place where EVERYONE could get on board and go, “Oh, cool! Giveaways! I want to win stuff!” And where they wouldn’t turn away because it was EASY. And PRETTY. And FAMILIAR (hence the Pinterest-inspired layout).
And therein comes Giveaway Center. Hopefully, it will grow and grow and become a well-known place to find and list giveaways. Hopefully, the PREMIER giveaway site, allowing bloggers the opportunity to get way more eyeballs on their giveaway then through their own channels alone, causing an increase in entries, making both blogger and brand happy-happy, exposing the wonderful brand (and I say wonderful because any brand that recognizes the power of the blogger is all right in my book) to more people, and, ultimately, resulting in new blog-followers, Twitter followers and FB friends for the blogger. Because bloggers are awesome.
And, hopefully (too many times?), the giveaway-loving people out there (and those who have not yet discovered their love for giveaways) will win some great prizes and discover some new “blog friends” along the way.
